One of the major problem aquaculture industry is facing Harmful algal blooms (HABs). Red tides, blue-green algae, and cyanobacteria are examples of harmful algal blooms (HABs) that can have severe impacts on growth & health of the fish. Conventional aquaculture practices lead to deliberate usage of strong chemicals to disinfectant the pond water and soil. The dead algal bloom settles at the pond bottom and increases nitrogen and phosphorus from decay resulting in the removal of oxygen, all leading to fish mortality and effects the life of the fish.
Providing adequate nutrients and beneficial microorganisms to the pond bottom will promote a constant mineralization cycle in the pond which in turn promotes healthy algal bloom. Stocking fish / shrimp without proper algal bloom affects the survival rate of the fish / shrimp. Therefore developing a proper algal bloom before stocking fish/shrimp is essential for a good harvester.
